Avoid Acute Detoxification

Commonly referred to as "toxins", releasing these metabolic wastes during massage may produce flu-like symptoms, including sore muscles, aching joints, headache, nausea, depression and irritability. Re-hydration and taking detoxification baths are simple and effective ways to assist your body's elimination systems to cope with sudden concentrations of released toxins.

Hydration

Drinking 8 ounces of purified water per 20 pounds of body weight, per day, is recommended to promote optimal filtration of the blood by the kidneys and to retain or keep the rest of your tissues hydrated.

Detox Baths

As you may already know, the skin is a vital organ in your body's waste removal processes. Detoxifying baths are a simple and valuable adjunct to your personal wellness and have been very helpful in facilitating the elimination of toxins released by massage and bodywork therapies.

Epsom Salts - Taken as hot as is tolerable, for 12-15 minutes, 1-4 pounds of Epsom salts in a full bathtub is recommended (the more salt, the more perspiration). Suggestion: 2 pounds as a maintenance bath, for clearing lymphatics and the energetic body. Once every three days is the maximum suggested frequency, as this bath can have a draining effect.

Apple Cider Vinegar - Restoring a natural pH to the skin and hair, while combating "unfriendly" bacteria and fungal overgrowth, these soothing hot baths causes the pores to open and aids in general systemic detoxification. Using pure, unprocessed apple cider vinegar, add 2-4 cups to a hot bath.

Baking Soda & Sea Salt - Hot bath with equal parts of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and sea salt assists in detoxification of the body, soothing itchy skin, and cleansing of the auric field. In combination, use 1-2 pounds of each.

Hydrogen Peroxide - Increases oxygen available directly to the body. This refreshing, gentle bath is antibacterial, antiviral and cleansing to the emotional and energetic bodies. Add 6 ounces of 35% food-grade hydrogen peroxide (or 2-4 pints of 3% H2O2) to a hot bath and soak for 20-30 minutes. (Disclaimer: Be careful in handling this concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide as it can "burn" or irritate the skin. Skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, athlete's foot and rashes, respond well to this. Do not immerse the face or hair.)
